Heavy Lifting, Light on Time – How TED Saves on Man-Hours at Rolleston Open Cut Mine
Facing high-risk maintenance challenges for fitters working across their fleet of dozers and HME trucks, Rollestion Open Cut Mine looked to improve safety and operational efficiency. By introducing TED from Nivek Industries to their workforce, the site was able to reduce man-hours, minimise personnel risk and improve efficiency.
The Client
Rolleston Open Cut Mine (operated by Glencore) is located in Central Queensland and features a large fleet of dozers and heavy mobile equipment trucks. With an annual coal production capacity of 14 million tonnes, the mine is committed to maintaining high safety standards and operational efficiency, while managing complex maintenance requirements for its machinery.
The Challenge – Strain on People, Strain on Productivity
Maintenance tasks at Rolleston, such as removing belly guards and heavy components, were exposing personnel to high-risk situations. Manual handling was time-consuming and carried the potential for injury due to uncontrolled equipment movement during component removal. The mine was looking for a more efficient way to manage these tasks without compromising on the safety of their fitters.
The Solution – Less Risk, More Results
By implementing TED on-site, Rolleston were able to address their safety and operational challenges. TED helped to reduce personnel exposure to high-risk work, especially when removing components such as belly guards, and cut down hundreds of man-hours of manual labour.
By creating their own custom stands, Rolleston were able to further expand the equipment’s versatility in being able to remove CAT C175 sumps. Currently utilising two TED units to service their extensive fleet of dozers and HME trucks, Nivek helped the mine with both effective coverage and enhanced operational efficiency on a daily basis.
